The EIFL Public Library Innovation Programme (EIFL-PLIP) team has released a new ‘Small Bites’ training video for public librarians and public library trainers, titled ‘Different roles of a good trainer: Instructor, Facilitator and Coach’.

In the video, EIFL-PLIP Impact Manager, Ugne Lipeikaite, explores each of the three roles and describes how to apply them in different situations to achieve training goals and make training effective and engaging.

Using a real-life example of training conducted by EIFL-PLIP for public librarians in Ghana, Ugne shows how the trainer used all three roles during different phases of a workshop, alternating between short presentations of content (instructor), group activities and discussions (facilitator) and reflection on progress (coach).

This video is one of five EIFL-PLIP ‘Small bites’ on organizing and delivering library training programmes. Other videos in the topic are:

The EIFL-PLIP Small Bites are based on EIFL-PLIP’s experience of building capacity of public librarians and supporting the development of technology-based public library services in Africa. Video content includes real-life examples of public library projects implemented by EIFL grantees.

In creating the videos the EIFL-PLIP team was guided by micro-learning methodology, which breaks learning content into small chunks, or units, and creates learning resources focused on a specific practical issue or learning outcome. The aim is to create a quick but complete learning experience that enables learners to grasp and apply knowledge immediately.
