ABOUT THE RESOURCE
Côte d'Ivoire ratified the Marrakesh Treaty on 17 September 2020 and the treaty entered into force on 17 December 2020. The next step is to implement the treaty into domestic law. To assist policy-makers and libraries in Côte d'Ivoire, EIFL has drafted recommendations for copyright law amendments necessary to implement the Marrakesh Treaty.
The copyright law of Côte d'Ivoire (2016) contains an exception for the benefit of persons who are visually impaired. However, the exception does not seem to comply with the requirements of the Marrakesh Treaty, and it imposes unnecessary restrictions on the making of accessible format copies. EIFL’s recommendations aim to bring the exception into line with the Marrakesh Treaty, and to do so in a way that maximizes the benefits of the treaty.
