EIFL in Lithuania

EIFL has been working in Lithuania since 1999. We supported the creation of the Lithuanian Research Library Consortium (LMBA), and through this partnership, libraries in Lithuania are providing access to a wide range of scholarly e-resources. EIFL agreements with publishers also allow authors in Lithuania to publish in open access in hybrid or fully open access journals at waived or discounted Article Processing Charges (APCs).

Libraries in Lithuania also benefit from EIFL programmes on open access, copyright and innovation in public libraries.

EIFL has supported open access awareness raising and advocacy workshops that have resulted in the launch of open access publishing platforms for Lithuanian journals, and the creation of a number of institutional open access repositories and policies. In addition, EIFL has built the capacity of librarians to become open science trainers for faculty and students.

We supported implementation of the Marrakesh Treaty for persons with print disabilities in Lithuania, and then we worked with the Lithuanian Library for the Blind (since 2023, known as the Lithuanian Audiosensory Library) to put the treaty into practice, including through cross-border regional cooperation.

Our engagement with public libraries has resulted in innovative pilot projects that are helping libraries meet the information needs of their communities.
