Universidade Óscar Ribas in Angola has initiated a project that will strengthen the quality and visibility of its journal, SAPIENTIAE, and expand its reach and impact in Angola and other countries in Africa.

SAPIENTIAE is a Diamond open access multilingual (Portuguese, Spanish and English) multidisciplinary academic journal that is committed to the development of science and the dissemination of knowledge generated through research.

The ‘Strengthening research capacities and community involvement for the growth of the journal SAPIENTIAE’ project will strengthen the journal’s editorial capacity by hiring new staff to support production, marketing, visibility and the development of strategic partnerships with other journals and institutions. In addition, it will enhance the quality of the journal by providing training for editorial staff and reviewers in language editing and proofreading, editorial standards and good practices in scholarly publishing.

The project is among 33 that have received grant support through a three-year project to strengthen no-fee open access publishing in Africa implemented by EIFL, AJOL (African Journals Online) and WACREN (the West and Central African Research and Education Network), with funding from Wellcome.
