In this webinar (about 40 min), Tatjana Timotijevic, Head of the Department of Scientific Information at the National Library of Serbia, and Country Coordinator for the Serbian Library Consortium, KoBSON,  EIFL’s partner library consortium in Serbia, shares her experience of how Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) were implemented in Serbia.

A DOI provides a permanent link to the full text of an article within a journal, but it also increases the visibility of the article and the potential for citation. In most countries, scientific publishers take care of the DOI assignment to journals. In Serbia however, there are no scientific publishers - journals are published by associations, institutes and faculties - therefore the National Library of Serbia has taken on the work of assigning DOIs to articles and maintaining them. Currently, DOI Serbia spans 40,500 articles from 56 active journals.

Tatjana explains what you need to do if you want to start assigning and maintaining DOIs for journal articles.
