Aiste Pranckute, Chief Information Manager at the Kaunas University of Technology in Lithuania, speaks about assessing the content needs of library users first of all by checking new proposed e-resources against the institution’s study programmes and research areas. They should also be checked for overlap against existing subscriptions using tools such as Primo’s SFX or CUFTS. Most importantly, librarians should engage with students, researchers and faculty by asking them for feedback on the proposed e-resources; this can be done via email, through surveys, or during direct contact for example during seminars or training events. 

Jevgenija Sevcova, Databases Manager at the Lithuanian Research Library Consortium (LMBA), which licenses e-resources on behalf of its members, speaks about how the consortium helps its members in the process of licensing e-resources, and encourages them to seek feedback from their students, researchers and faculty. Jevgenija also stresses the need to look at usage statistics, which helps to determine if subscribed or trial e-resources meet the users’ needs.
