EIFL Public Library Innovation Programme (EIFL-PLIP) Advisor for Initiatives for Africa, Janet Sawaya, will attend the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) 2016, ‘Enabling Inclusive and Sustainable Growth’.

The IGF is a multi-stakeholder forum that brings together stakeholders from government, industry and civil society to discuss public policy issues relating to the internet.

At the IGF, the Dynamic Coalition on Public Access in Libraries (DC-PAL) will meet on  7 December from 3pm - 4.30pm to discuss the role of public libraries in providing public access to the internet for people who might otherwise not have it, helping people to understand the internet’s value, training people to get online, and building trust and familiarity with online services. Join speakers from the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), EIFL, Gigabit Libraries Network, Google, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and People Centred Internet at this meeting. You can read the meeting agenda here.

EIFL is a founder member of the DC-PAL, which was created by EIFL and IFLA at the Internet Governance Forum in 2011. The DC-PAL aims to engage the IGF in discussion about public access to the internet and the role of public libraries in providing public internet access and skills training.
