European Respiratory Journal free open access publishing

EIFL has negotiated free and discounted open access publishing terms with the European Respiratory Society.

• Free open access publishing 

Corresponding authors from the below eligible countries will be able to publish their articles for free in open access in these Journals:  European Respiratory Journal, ERJ Open Research, and European Respiratory Review, without paying an Article Processing Charge. Article types can include original research material, correspondence to the editor, short research letters or reviews; they exclude editorial commentaries.

Eligible countries:

Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Botswana, Congo (Democratic Republic), Côte d'Ivoire, Ethiopia, Fiji, Georgia, Ghana, Kenya, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Lesotho, Malawi, Maldives, Moldova, Myanmar, Namibia, Nepal, North Macedonia, Palestine, Senegal, Serbia, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Zambia, Zimbabwe

• Free open access publishing if institution has paid read & publish fee

Corresponding authors from the below eligible countries will be able to publish their articles for free in open access in these Journals:  European Respiratory Journal, ERJ Open Research, and European Respiratory Review, without paying an Article Processing Charge, provided that their affiliated institution has paid the annual read & publish fee. Article types can include original research material, correspondence to the editor, short research letters or reviews; they exclude editorial commentaries.

Eligible countries:
Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovenia

We will list institutions that have signed the read & publish agreement with the ERS here. Currently no institution have signed yet. 

HOW DOES IT WORK FOR AUTHORS FROM FREE OA PUBLISHING COUNTRIES?

Corresponding Authors from Eligible Countries will be automatically recognized when they state their country affiliation when submitting their article to the European Respiratory Journal, ERJ Open Research, and European Respiratory Review and will be offered the applicable APC waiver. HOW DOES IT WORK FOR AUTHORS WHOSE INSTITUTIONS HAVE PAID READ & PUBLISH FEE?

Corresponding authors from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovenia whose affiliated institutions have paid the read & publish fee should ideally have an email address that is issued by their institution, so that they can easily be recognized. 

Otherwise, they will be recognized when they state their institutional affiliation. The APC waiver will then be applied. In case of any issues, authors can contact journals@ersnet.org

HOW CAN I FIND JOURNALS THAT ARE INCLUDED IN THE OFFER?

You can view the title list here and browse it by subject. This title list will be updated once a year. The current list was confirmed on 5th January 2024.

All aspects of adult and paediatric respiratory medicine, including cell biology, epidemiology, immunology, oncology, pathophysiology, imaging, occupational medicine, intensive care, sleep medicine and thoracic surgery.
