To celebrate International Open Access Week 2016, Embu University will host an open access (OA) seminar and launch the (repository.embuni.ac.ke) Embu University OA institutional repository.
Embu University, formerly a Constituent College of the University of Nairobi, became a fully- fledged University on 7 October 2016 - a historic day for the university.
The university aims to play a leading role in development and expansion of opportunities for higher education and research in agriculture, agribusiness, veterinary medicine, forestry, water and biological and physical sciences.
Open access to research output is high on Embu University’s agenda. Professor Mugendi Njiru, Vice Chancellor, and Professor Kiplagat Kotut, Deputy Vice Chancellor, will take part in the OA seminar and launch the Embu University open access institutional repository. Seminar participants will also finalize and launch the university’s OA policy.
EIFL Open Access Programme Manager Iryna Kuchma will address the seminar on open access, and how open access increases visibility and impact of research.
The seminar is one of several events organized by EIFL, EIFL's partner library consortia and partners across the globe to celebrate International Open Access Week 2016. Open Access Week is an annual, global event established by SPARC in 2008 to raise awareness about open access and to call for open access to be the new norm in scholarship and research.
