Teresa Hackett, EIFL Copyright and Libraries Programme Manager, will moderate a session at the event, ‘Why Europe needs a Digital Knowledge Act’, that will bring together EU policymakers, academics and civil society to discuss legislative measures needed to enable knowledge institutions, such as libraries, fulfill their public mission in the digital age.

COMMUNIA, working with representatives of knowledge institutions and other experts, has identified six key problems faced by institutions and it has developed position papers with concrete asks on each issue: access to public sector documents and public speeches; access to publicly funded research and a unified research exception; a right to use cultural heritage in the Public Domain; an EU-wide right to e-lend; a limitation of liability for knowledge institutions; and measures to address refusals to license and unfair licensing practices. Now COMMUNIA wants to discuss the findings more broadly with stakeholders.
