EIFL is delighted to announce a partnership with Goethe-Institut Addis Abeba to build digital technology skills of public librarians in Addis Ababa, capital of Ethiopia.

The new partnership takes forward EIFL’s capacity building programme for public librarians in Ethiopia, in which EIFL is supporting modernization of 11 public libraries in Addis Ababa in partnership with the Addis Ababa Tourism Bureau.

In 2015-2016 Addis Ababa Culture and Tourism Bureau installed 30 computers in the 11 libraries. Now training is needed to ensure that the new technology is effectively integrated into services that meet community needs, in particular, the needs of young people.

Goethe-Institut Addis Abeba will lead and manage training for 22 public librarians - two from each of the 11 public libraries.

The training will build public librarians’ technology skills, and will include practical sessions on finding relevant information online, using e-mail and social media in communications. It will also provide skills needed to develop computer and internet training programmes for young people.
