Nancy Pontika (Open University, UK) talks about

  • the value of aggregating open access research;
  • CORE and how it enriches collected data for text mining (the process of extracting high quality and meaningful information from text to answer unknown questions) and provides unique services to the research community; and
  • why repositories should support text and data mining.

CORE is a multi-disciplinary global aggregator currently harvesting over 77 million metadata records and offering over six million open access full-text articles. And it is still growing.

The service is available to anyone with an internet connection and in need of open access scientific research. It can be used by students, professionals and lifelong learners who struggle to discover peer-reviewed open access scholarly resources. In addition, librarians can use CORE to find useful content and fulfill the needs of their users.

The service also offers an API and a Dataset to apply text and data mining practices for free, offering programmable access to its large collection.
