EIFL joins over 40 groups and individuals in calling on Elsevier to withdraw its current policy on text and data mining (TDM).

The letter expresses concern at unnecessary restrictions placed on researchers undertaking text and data mining, often described as the new frontier for science and research, by limiting their ability, and their right, to mine content to which they have legal access.

For example, requiring researchers to agree to a click-through licence that can change at any time, and placing conditions on the dissemination of the research outputs derived from TDM.

The letter offers constructive alternatives so that the social and economic potential of text and data mining for science and society can be fully realized.
